Black Metal Guitar Covers

Hello sausage lovers and black metal enjoyers,

Earlier this year I was contemplating my online presence or should I say lack thereof.  In mid 2023 I deactivated my Instagram and X accounts, deleted my facebook and snapchat profiles, and stopped reading the news.

I was trying to take a page from one of my favorite black metal bands, French legends Deathspell Omega, who are shrouded in an air of mystery.  Nobody really knows who the band members are, they do not play live, they have only given 1 interview in the past 20 years, and only communicate news about their releases and others via news updates on their own label's website, Norma Evangelium Diaboli.

This fascinated me, and having very little friends who use social media, I thought it would be the perfect time to divorce myself from the evil misery machines that are social media.  The goal was if I googled my name that the only thing that would come up was my LinkedIn profile, which is a necessary evil at the current point in my career.

A few months ago, Deathspell Omega released a faceless rehearsal video on their label's youtube channel.  Not only is their performance incredible, the reason they recorded this to begin with has to do with circumstances surrounding this album.

There was a certain point in 2019 when they were considering touring "The Furnaces of Palingenesia"; however this plan was ultimately scrapped.  Not only is it fascinating to get a glimpse into them as people, their musicianship is also astounding given that this song is incredibly complex.

The comments have been deliberately turned off in part because Deathspell Omega have transcended the earthly mortal desires to be praised, dissected, analyzed, or criticized.  It is a one-way gift to the world and an homage to black metal elitism.

Taking a page from their book, I have begun recording guitar (and sometimes vocal) covers of some of my favorite black metal songs.  Face obscured and comments turned off, check them out if you are interested.

The only other hobby that means more to me than sausage and meat production would be black metal, and the associated subculture, history, and aesthetics that surround it.
